Ranfurly Players
The Ranfurly Players are a theatre Repertory of enthusiastic
Actors who have intellectual impairments and disabilities.
The Repertory was formed in 2005 at the Activity Centre of
Ranfurly Care Society Inc. in Auckland under the guidance
of Creative Director, Brett Ihaka.
They presented their first production that same year of William
Shakespeares' great tragedy 'MacBeth'. This was followed by
the 2006 play - a rendition of Sherlock Holmes 'The Hound
of the Baskervilles'. In 2007 they staged 'The Three Musketeers'.
Their latest play was staged in 2008 - 'Antony and Cleopatra',
which was directed by Murray Nash (a student at the Activity
Centre).
The Ranfurly Players are the only theatre Repertory of its
kind in New Zealand showcasing the acting skills of people
with intellectual impairments and disabilities. The Actors
rehearse, learn dialogue, stage movement, improvisation and
bring to the stage their own unique skills and talents which
fosters a great spirit of independence.
The Repertory is supported by a committed group of Tutors
at the Ranfurly Care Society. Our goal is to provide an artistic
and creative endeavour for all of those who may not have the
opportunity.
